Written
by teens...for teens! These 16 timely and relevant stories are sure to
engage struggling readers with high-interest topics about real-life
situations like setting goals, playing sports, going to school, natural
disasters, moving, making friends, and more.
Each 16-page story was written by a high school student as part of a
class writing project. The stories were then adapted to fit a low
reading level. Several factors were taken into account when the story
was written: relaxed readability, simple sentence structure, selective
vocabulary, and interesting plots.
The included activity pages are designed to build skills in grammar and
comprehension. Students are asked to identify parts of speech, find the
main idea, uncover facts, and draw conclusions. Vocabulary words and
definitions are introduced before each story to increase comprehension.
Small group discussion and independent writing activities have also been
added as extensions of the reading process.
Improved reading ability and comprehension can lead to increased
self-esteem. We hope that this collection of 16 stories will help
students not only strengthen their reading skills but boost their
self-confidence as well, both in and out of the classroom.
This 16-page book is intended to encourage and motivate middle school
and high school readers whose interests are not matched by their reading
abilities.
