Being able to successfully decode words is the key to becoming a confident and fluent reader.

This book was designed to support two of the essential components of the Science of Reading: Phonics and Phonemic Awareness. It’s meant for students who have already been introduced to phonics but who still need practice to attain mastery and to easily use phonics to decode words.

The task card format allows for specifically targeted practice and flexible usage: homework, seat work, warmups, independent study, etc. The short, doable activities vary in degrees of difficulty and are colorful, engaging and fun. The task cards provide practice with: Long Vowels, Digraphs, Diphthongs, R- Controlled Vowels and the The Letter Y. While some activities may be challenging, the sense of accomplishment and skills gained are worth the effort.
