Science of Reading, Fluency, Automaticity, Prosody, Timed-Reading, Differentiated Instruction, Summarizing
Fluency is demonstrated when a student can read aloud smoothly and accurately with a natural pace and expressive tone showing comprehension of the text.
Reading Fluency is the culmination of the hard work a student has put into the other main aspects of the Science of Reading: Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Vocabulary, and Text Comprehension. This bundle of 144 task cards provides students the opportunity for lots of practice with automaticity and prosody so they can perfect their fluency.
One of the ways that automaticity can be measured is by WCPM. Each story passage has a word count and progress can be tracked using the included Fluency Tracker chart for automaticity. Prosody is supported by an optional summarizing activity to help reinforce comprehension of each reading passage. Progress in prosody can be tracked using the included Fluency Tracker chart for prosody.
The topics for these task cards were chosen based on the Science of Reading’s focus on expository text when it comes to fluency and on the fact that students need extra practice reading dialogue aloud.
