Making sense of multiple-meaning words.

The 25 lessons in this unit are designed to give students plenty of practice recognizing and using homographs and heteronyms in written and oral communication. Activities ranging from matching meanings to completing sentences work to stimulate awareness of the multiple meanings a single word can have and how pronunciation changes the meaning of like words.

Example:

They tied a BOW on the present.

Robin Hood used a BOW and arrows.

The star came on stage to take a BOW.

Exercises increase in difficulty as students progress. A list of homographs not used in the lessons is included so teachers can design their own activities.
